Girl on the Hilltop

Easy sponge painting and paper frock craft making for kids...

Things needed:

Paper sheet ( white, 2 colour sheets)
Glue
Scissors
Earbuds
Sponge
Paints (blue, green)
Sketchpens
Pencil

Method:

Draw a hilltop and a tree over it.

Draw a girl next to the tree. Using earbuds paint the tree green.

Next using sponge paint the hilltop green and sky blue.

Now colour the branches of the tree brown.

Using the two craft sheet, cut the strips as shown in the picture.

Stick the dress to the girl as shown in the video.

Complete the picture with more elements as you wish to make it more beautiful.

We used masking tape to secure the paper do that it's easy to sponge paint.



Identifying Colours

Kids in the age group 2 to 3 years learn to identify colours. To make this interesting, I have created this activity.

You can also use more number of colours. Instead of wool you can also use satin ribbons.

Things needed:

Bowls ( different colours)
Wool different colours

Method:

Make small pieces of wool. Ask the baby to lift one wool, identify the colour and put it in the same colour bowl.

This method make them easier to learn colours.

Dominoes Number Matching...

Things needed:

White sheet

Method:

Write a combination of numbers and dominoes as shown in the picture. 

Ask your kid to write the matching number or dominoes. If there is number replace it with dominoes and vice versa..

Learn Opposites with Colours

Things needed:

White sheet
Sketch pens

Method:

Write the opposite words randomly on a white sheet.

Ask your kid to find the pair of opposite words and circle them with the same colour.

Fun way to learn opposite words.

If you don't have much colours you can also use match the following method to learn them.


Threading Pasta

Things needed:

Pasta (tubular shape)
Spaghetti (u can also use any stick too)
Sponge 

Masking tape
Sketchpens

Method:

Age group: 2 to 3 years:

Pierce some spaghetti into the sponge. Teach the kid to thread the pasta into the spaghetti. Do it once so that they can follow.

This helps in building fine motor skills in kids.

Age group: 3 to 4 years:

For the little older ones, if they are already introduced to the numbers, you can stick a masking tape on the sponge and write the numbers on it.

Then pierce a spaghetti infront of it. Ask the kid to thread the number of pasta as written in the front. 

They will learn counting easily with this technique.

Arrange in Order

Things needed:

White sheet
Sketchpens

Method:

Write different things like capital and small alphabets, numbers, days of the week, months of the year and other things in random order.

Ask your kid to arrange them in order.

I have included  Kannada alphabets too. My daughter doesn't know to write it yet but she can identify them. So asked her to guess the correct order and I filled the last line.

For older kids you can include Hindi too.





Add and Colour

Things needed:

White sheet
Sketchpens

Method:

Draw any object which your kid likes.

Divide it into many parts. Write two numbers to add in the box.

As my kid is very small , I have given only the addition where the sum is within 10. For older kids you can give large numbers and assign one colour for five to ten numbers.

Here I have marked one colour each for the answers.

Ask your kid to calculate the sum and fill the box with the colour of the sum.

Match the following..

Things required:

Method:

I have made front and top view of cuboids here. Ask your kid to match them.

You can explain them the concept with any object. Just show an object and ask them to see it from top and then side ways. Now ask them to analyse the same with these colours and match.

You will be surprised with their analysis.

You can also play this with different objects at home like lunch box, water bottle, plate ,toys etc.

Build the design game

Method:

Play this game with your kid. Both of you turn by turn start drawing a design.

One person starts and the next person builds on it. Take turn in building the design.

Finally the design looks very beautiful.

Don't guide your kid. Let them draw whatever they wish. They will learn symmetry and new designs themselves.

Find the word "India"

Things needed:

Method:

Draw the horizontal and vertical lines and write the letters "INDIA" in few places. Then fill the other spaces with the same alphabets randomly.

Ask your kid to find the word India in it.






Guess the Fruit/Vegetable...

Things needed:

Sketch pens
White sheet

Method:

Make three columns. Write fruit or vegetable in first column and colour in second.

Ask your kid to match the first two columns and guess the Fruit or vegetable and draw it in the third.

It would be great if they find more than one fruit or vegetable.



Tattoo party

   Just a fun activity...

Things needed:

Acrylic paints

Method:
Paint your kids favourite cartoon character on their hands. They would love the tattoo.

I made Peppa on her hand for her birthday.

She enjoyed the tattoo on her hands.

Give Directions to Peppa

Peppa wants to go home. She also needs to meet few of her friends and George on the way. Show her the path. Ask you kid to give her directions.

Things needed:

White sheet

Pencil
Eraser

Method:

Draw Peppa, her friends and also her home. Draw the path with dotted lines.

I have made the path with lots of turns and twists.

Ask your kid to mark the direction with arrow marks.

If your kid is little older, they can also write North, East ,West and South on it.

Optical Illusion Wheel

      I was working on creating a 3D disc. My baby was so fascinated and wanted to try it out.. so not to discourage her I gave her two small ones with colours marked. She was so happy in colouring it. The outcome was great.

Things needed:

White sheet 
Sketch pens
Compass
Ruler
Pencil 
Eraser

Method:

Draw a circle and many smaller circles inside it. Divide them into multiples of the colours that you wish to use. ex: we wanted to use three colours to we made them into 12 parts.

Start colouring as in picture. If you have coloured yellow in one box then the next  yellow should be in the next box in next line.

Complete the picture. Since my kid was small, I marked the colours for her.

Use any combination colours, the outcome is going to be awesome.

Treasure Hunt (Counting Coins)

Things needed:

Coins 
Bowls
Paper
Sketch pen

Method:

Put all the coins in a bowl. Ask your kid to separate them according to their denominations.

Now count the coins in each denomination and write the numbers.

Kids will learn how many types of coins we have. Also ask them to observe the unique coins.. They will enjoy this as they feel it's some sort of treasure hunting.. 😁

Draw different shapes in the first column and similar shapes with missing links in the next.

Ask your kid to compare the shapes with the first column and complete shapes in the next column.

I have used very basic shapes for my kid. Depending on the age of your children you can make complicated shapes.

Learning Gender Words

     It is always difficult to teach gender words (masculine and feminine) to kids. They forget it easily. So why not start it at an early age in a fun way with few basic words. You can use the same method to teach more difficult ones for elder kids.

Things needed:

White sheet - 2
Paper cup
Scissor
Glue
Sketch pens
Bowl

Method:

Draw a girl and a boy picture on a paper. Cut the paper cup into half and stick it below them as shown in the picture.

In another paper write all the gender words and cut them into small strips. Put all of them in a bowl.

Ask your kid to pick one word and sort them according to their gender. Help them to read it they find the word difficult.

In this was they will also learn to read few words.

Add as many gender words as you wish.

Fill the boxes...

Simple way to learn the combination of alphabet and number. We have already done this with colours, today I thought let  me give alphabets and numbers.

Method:

Draw a tabular column and fill the horizontal and vertical lines with alphabets ands numbers.

Ask your kid to write the combination of each in every box. Like if d meets 3, then it's d3.

Bubble Wrap Painting

Method:

Stick the bubble wrap firmly with the help of masking tape to any surface or pad.

Use paints to create a beautiful pattern with any number of colour combinations.

Ask your kids to try out different patterns on it.

Counting the Shapes in a Tree

Method:

Draw a big tree and make some space on it to write the symbols as in the picture.

Write different shapes in them. I have used circle, square, heart and star.

Ask your kid to count the number of all the shapes.

Colour the Donuts 🍩

Things needed:

White sheet
Sketch pens

Method:

Draw some horizontal and vertical lines on a sheet of paper.

Mark some colours on the x-axis and on the y-axis as shown in the picture.

In the rest of the boxes, fill it with three circles one inside the other. These resemble donuts just to make it interesting for the kids.

Ask your kid to colour the larger circle with colour on y-axis and smaller circle with colour on x-axis.

Bit confusing for them, but you can guide. Even my kiddo made one mistake...but that's not a problem.. learning should not stop.
